Life in NYC

Standard

I just called to have someone pick up my laundry, so I thought I would write a post that addresses all of the convenient services provided here in the city. Seriously, there is no reason to leave your apartment some days. Here are a few of the conveniences that I indulge in on a regular basis:

  • Groceries: We have an online grocery store called Fresh Direct. I go online and choose what I want and then I schedule a delivery time. All of the produce is local and if it doesn’t look right, then they remove it from your order. All of my neighborhood stores also deliver, but the nice thing about Fresh Direct is I never have to walk into a grocery store.
  • Laundry: I haven’t done my own laundry in 2 years. I live in an old brownstone building, so there is no laundry room. Instead of lugging all of my clothes to the laundermat, I just call my local dry cleaner and they pick it up.  They use my soap and separate the colors. Then its delivered back to me washed and folded. (If only I had someone that would put it away for me too – just kidding.)
  • Food Delivery: In NYC, you can pretty much get any kind of food at any time of day. There is a website called Seamless Web, which tells you all of the restaurants that deliver in each neighborhood. You simply place your order online and then its brought to you. See, seamless…
  • Taxis: There is a new taxi service in NYC called Uber. It is seriously one of the best services ever. Whenever you need a car, you just open the app on your phone, set your location and it tells you have far away a car is. The best part is they are not dirty yellow cabs, they are super nice black sedans and SUVs. Nothing like rolling to dinner in an Escalade.

For those of you that are thinking, wow she sure is lazy, just know if all of this was available to you, you definitely would indulge. Life moves so fast here that its nice to have the extra help and convenience.

Almost Done

Standard
Tomorrow is my last day of my cleanse. I’ve enjoyed 18 shakes, 6 rice bars and a ton of veggies.

Things that I’ve learned about myself during the last week:

  • I can do anything if I put my mind to it. When my doctor said that he wanted me to only eat vegetables for lunch and dinner, I didn’t think that I’d be able to do it.
  • I have fantastic and supportive friends. I went to my friend’s place for dinner and brought broccoli to make sure that there was something I could eat. When I arrived, I found out that my friends were making multiple veggie only meals. It was very thoughtful and it was the best meal that I’ve had all week.
  • Green beans are the most filling. They’re my favorite for dinner. I prefer spinach salads for lunch.
Three shakes to go, hopefully the doctor will tell me that I can add grains or a bit of protein back to my diet!

21 Shakes

Today I started a 7 day cleanse. This consists of three shakes per day, one rice bar, a handful of vitamins and all the veggies I can eat. I know what you’re thinking right now, how do I do this too?

So far, its been going ok. I feel a little shaky, but I think it will get easier. Hoping it will get easier.

Faithful readers, I will keep you posted on cleanse and let you know if I make it 7 days!

xoxo

Committed to Trying

Standard
It was brought to my attention that I don’t blog enough. I’m pretty sure that I’ve said this before, but now I’m making a public commitment to blog on a more regular basis. Most days, I feel like I don’t have much to say.

So, its the holiday season. Can you believe it? I spent Thanksgiving with my best friend Megan and her amazing family in Utah. It was nice to be back there and meet her precious new little girl, Nora. I also got to hang out with my favorite 2 year old, Reed. I always have so much fun with them! It makes me sad that we’re not closer and I don’t get to see them very much.

While I was in Utah, I got to also spend time with my sister and her husband. I finally got to see their house. I’ve been a really bad sister because it took me over a year to finally get out to Utah to see their new house. In addition to seeing the house, Candace took me to a two hour Zumba class (to anyone who hasn’t tried Zumba, you should. It’s a blast and a great workout.)

Ok, so there is my update. I promise that there will be more. With that, I leave you, my faithful readers, with one of my favorite pictures from my trip to Greece. This is a picture of super cute downtown Mykonos. This picture makes me happy, especially because its pouring outside currently and I need to go to a happy place.

New Home.

Standard
It’s been a while since my last post…

So far 2011 has been quite busy. I’ve survived the Snowpocolypse of New York, moved apartments, and have been super busy at work.

My new apartment is in the same building as the old one, just in the front of the building. I now have two street facing windows, so I have direct sunlight, which makes a world of difference. My kitchen is also bigger. All in all, I’m much better off in the new place, its more spacious and I LOVE having the sun. Here are a few pictures:

Right Now…

Thanks to Diana for the template for this blog post…

Outside my window…Fall is here. The window is open and cool air is coming in. I can’t control the heat in my apartment, so I leave the window open for relief.

I am thinking…my upcoming week. On Monday, I’m going to get beat up by my personal trainer. Tuesday, I’m going to spend with Bernadette Peters at “A Little Night Music” and then I have a quick trip to San Francisco. What I’m most looking forward to is my friend’s little sisters’ sweet 16 party on Long Island. I’m sure a blog post will come out of Saturday night!

I am thankful for…EVERYTHING! I have a pretty great life and I love every minute. God has blessed me more than I could ever deserve.

From the kitchen…I’m fasting from take out. As part of my commitment to getting back into shape, I will be making my meals, as much as possible!

I am wearing…PJ’s. I’ll eventually put on my jeans and boots.

I am creating…a comfortable home. Through cleaning and a little odds and ends, my little home feels warm and comfortable.

I am going…to see all of my favorite SF girlfriends this week! Two in SF and two here in New York.

I am reading…Ragamuffin Gospel, which is a great book if you need to be reminded that God loves sinners.

I am hoping…that the I will survive the winter!

I am hearing…Milano run back and forth, chasing the hairband.

Around the house…Magazines that need to be recycled, dishes need to be done, laundry that needs to be taken to the cleaners and a bed that needs to be made.

One of my favorite things…Meg’s blog, I love reading about my boy Reed!

A picture to share…We’ve been listening to Christmas music in the office, and this man keeps coming on our Pandora station:

My Little Home

Standard
Since August, I’ve lived in a little apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It’s a cute a little place, that is really starting to feel like home. I’ve spent every weekend getting little odds and ends to make it complete. I also reorganize a little bit every weekend.
Everything in my apartment is smaller than normal. My stove and fridge are small and the sink in my bathroom is mini. I love my little space!
Here are a few pictures:

My little bedroom, with my super cute tuxedo comforter. I heart Anthro!

Milano is obsessed with drinking out of the mini sink! It’s actually really funny!
Hope you enjoyed the tour of my little place!

Progress Report: 30 Before 30

Standard

Friends, it’s been awhile since I posted, so I thought it would be a good idea to provide an update on my 30 bucket list, so to speak.

Over the past few months I’ve achieved the following:

– I’ve obtained a NYC address, I’m currently living on the Upper East Side, xoxo (Gossip Girl reference)
– I’ve fully furnished my apartment. It’s completely set up and very cozy!
– My co-worker has extra tickets for Lady Gaga, so it looks like I’ll be able to go in February!
– I’ve attended a NYC Ballet performance and will definitely be attending more soon!

This weekend my goal is to cross Ambiance off the list, since I will be in San Francisco. Oh, and I will see my SF girlfriends, which I’m really looking forward to!

That’s all for now! I’m well on my way….
